12 months

Last Monday, August 1st, the kids had their 12 month well-baby check and things are going great. The dr. said "you two couldn't have asked for two better kids".....we think that too :)

Kaden
Weight:  22lbs. 15oz. (50th percentile)
Height:  29.25 inches (30th percentile)

Kenley
Weight:  27lbs. 14oz. (99th percentile)
Height:  29.25 inches (50th percentile)

12 Month Stats:
*Kaden has brown eyes, Kenley has blue eyes
*Kaden has brown hair, Kenley has (depending on the light) light brown/blondish/strawberry blondish hair
*Kaden has 5 top teeth and 5 bottom teeth, Kenley has 2 top teeth and 2 bottom teeth (and two more top teeth that are going to be coming through any day now!)
*Kaden wears 12 month clothing, Kenley wears 18-24/24 month clothes
*Kaden wears size 4 diapers, Kenley wears size 5
*Both have transitioned to whole milk without any problems. They drink approximately 16oz. of milk per day out of sippy cups and they still get a 6oz. bottle of toddler formula before bedtime. Kaden is liking milk pretty well, Kenley is not thinking she likes it as well as formula.
*Eating:  Kenley will eat just about anything and gobbles it right down. But when she's done she'll let you know by turning her head or shaking her head no. Kaden is a much pickier eater and soo much slower. He takes forever to chew his food and swallow it down. He's not much of a big meat eater. If you put a bite of food in his mouth that contains meat, he will pick around it with his tongue and the meat will remain in his mouth. When he has decided he is done, he will simply spit out the piece of food that he was currently chewing up. They both LOVE fruit, you simply can't go wrong with any kind of fruit.
*Sleeping:  Kenley loves to sleep. She has absolutely no problem being laid down for a nap or for bed time. She still loves her pacifier and snuggles right in with her blanket. Kaden doesn't need as much sleep as Kenley. He likes to stay up a little later at night and no matter how tired he is, he still has to throw a fit when we put him in his crib. Luckily, Kenley doesn't mind a bit :)
*Standing/Walking:  Both Kaden and Kenley are cruising all along the furniture and both enjoy being walked if you hold on to their hands. Kenley is able to stand independently for several minutes at a time, Kaden's longest was 10 seconds before falling to his bum. Kenley is getting SO VERY CLOSE to walking all by herself. She took her very first steps on her birthday and she gets closer every day.
*Favorite Toy/Activity:  Their favorite toy right now is their Step 2 miniature slide. It's not very big but they both enjoy climbing up the single step and standing at the top. They enjoy doing this at the SAME time! This causes quite the problem sometimes. They enjoy any toy that makes noise or plays music, as well as flipping through books and playing with their "jumbo knob" puzzles.
*Words:  Kaden says mom, mama, and dada.   Kenley says hi, go, mama, dada, whoa, and will use the sign for "more".
*Proud Mama Moments:  Both kids are starting to eat using a fork and spoon, will clap their hands in excitement, play pat-a-cake and peek-a-boo, will wave hi and bye, give kisses, blow kisses, shake their head no, and follow simple 1-part instructions such as "give it to mom", "bring it here", or "come here."
*Not-So-Proud Mama Moments:  The fighting. I can't believe how much these two can fight. Some days it seems like that's all they do! They always seem to have to have what the other one has and then will fight over it. And scream, then they both scream and look at me for some help. Sometimes they are not very good listeners (yes, I know, they are only one) but still...sometimes they are simply naughty!  Kaden will go to something he flat out knows he shouldn't be doing and then look at me and shake his head no. Yep, he's got that right. But then he proceeds to do it. And when I do tell him no, he throws himself to the ground in a big ol' fit!  Kenley, she simply doesn't listen at all! It's as if I'm not even in existence. Then she thinks it's funny and will laugh at me when I try to tell her no.  Ohhh...that makes for some not-so-proud-mama-moments.
*Together:  They love following each other around and are both HUGE copy-cats. Definitely "monkey see...monkey do". Occasionally they will get jealous of the other's attention. They love to play with blankets. They'll cover their heads with a blanket and then pull them off and then they'll throw themselves around on top of each other and giggle and giggle and giggle. Kind of like "baby-blanket-wrestling".  They can be each other's best friend and then the each other's worst nightmare. They have definitely learned how to fight and will stand their ground. They love to play behind the curtains (thanks auntie Kris). They think it is the funniest thing ever. They'll get behind the curtains and giggle with each other until my cheeks hurt so much from laughing at the two of them. They are so cute in the mornings or after a nap when they will stand facing each other in their cribs and just chat/play/giggle/exchange blankets until somebody comes to get them. That is the best sound in the world!!

Cody and I absolutely LOVE having twins. This first year has been a ton of work and I hate to admit that a lot of it is completely a blur, as many days we were just trying to survive. But the simple exchanges, touches, conversations, and giggles that the two of them share is something that is priceless to me. I have been proud of the adventures we've had in their first year of life and I can't wait for more in the years to come!

we're starting to use utensils!

The last couple of weeks, during meal time, I've been giving the kids their own fork/spoon to hold on to. When they're not deciding to dig their hands into the food, they're actually pretty good with dipping the spoon and bringing it to their mouth. They're not quite ready to feed themselves completely independently, but this is a good start.  It's soo cute :)

Our FIRST Birthday!!

So I can't believe my babies turned ONE!!  It's a little hard to grasp at times and it still brings tears to my eyes thinking about how fast they are growing up. I simply can not imagine our life before these two entered it and how boring it would be if they were not here. What in the world did we do BEFORE we had kids?!?

Happy Birthday

Happy 1st Birthday Kaden and Kenley! You are two of the most beautiful children in the whole world. Mommy and Daddy can't express enough the amount of love and joy that you two bring into this home and into our hearts. We prayed for you and you are our miracles. We knew we always wanted to be parents, but I don't think we realized how special you two would make our lives. We are so proud to be your parents.

Kaden, you can be the easiest and most difficult child all at the same time.  When you are happy and feeling well, you are the most content little guy. You are laid back, enjoy playing, and can entertain yourself for long periods of time. You love to copy your sister and follow her around. Whatever she is doing, you are not too far behind. You are a little snuggler and love to be held. You love to smile and your giggle melts our hearts. You hate being told "no" and will typically throw yourself down in a fit when we do tell you no. You love to listen to music and will start to bop up and down and "dance." You are such a precious little boy. We love you so much.

Kenley, you are our wild woman. You have taken the role of  being the "big sister" to heart and you are definitely the boss around here. You are loud and boisterous and plain ol' crazy!! You are always happy and on the go, but we often catch you playing with something you shouldn't be. If it's ever too quiet around here, we definitely need to check where you two are, because you are typically getting into something. You've gotten a little attitude lately and enjoy picking on your brother. You love to eat and you love to sleep. You will eat just about anything and anytime we put you down for bed, you fall right to sleep. You are such a sweet little girl. We love you so much.

XOXO

Just wanted to share this crazy kid....

While Kaden and I were in Des Moines a couple weeks ago, I needed to run to Lowe's to pick up some paint. I left Kaden with my sister and Khloe and she was supposed to be watching them. She thought they were playing nicely in the tupperware cabinet. WRONG! This where she found them.

my excuse...

Alright, let me explain to you why there has been no birthday post and no birthday pictures. I actually don't even know why I'm going to attempt to share, because the simple thought of it makes my blood pressure rise to an unhealthy level. Something is wrong with our internet. I guess I'm not sure if it's our internet or our computer. But something is wrong. VERY wrong. Many days I can't even get the internet to open and if it does open, it's S.O.O.O.S.L.O.O.O.O.W.  I literally can not get a single thing done on it. Like, posting a picture to this blog, would take me ALLL day...just to post one, and that's if I even get it to post!!   I am not even exaggerating.  And crabby, ohh it makes so very crabby!

So today, I am at my mom's house and all excited that I would just get things done while I was here because her computer is super quick.  One small problem...the pictures from my sister's camera never got downloaded onto this computer before she went back home. So, here I sit with no pictures and I'm right back to square one :(

So sorry.

I promise though, I will get the "birthday post" posted...I just don't know when.

sorry, this is going to be a super-quick post, but I just wanted to update you all...

Cody's appointment went well today. The MRI continues to look the same. Thank the Lord!!!

Next appointment...4 months

we've been busy

It's been a bit crazy around here lately...thus, no blogging.  Here is what we've been up to since our Fourth of July weekend.

July 7th:  Kaden and Kenley had their follow up with the pulmonologist in Sioux Falls. They've been off of their inhalers since the end of April. When they would get a cold or start getting sick (while on the Flovent) we would just start nebs and it seemed like we were able to kick it pretty quickly. After going off of the Flovent, both kids had a nasty cold, were taken to the doctor, and put on nebulizers, antibiotics, and steroids. The pulmonologist felt that they handled being sick better while on the inhalers....so you guessed it, we are back to doing inhalers twice a day for both kids.

July 8th:  Kaden had his follow up with the ENT to check how his tubes were doing. Everything looked great. He still continues to pull on his left ear, but the ear looked good and the Dr. said there is nothing to worry about. Kenley left for Des Moines with grandma and grandpa and Kaden stayed with us for the weekend. It was also our 5th wedding anniversary, so the 3 of us went out for supper at Texas Roadhouse in Sioux Falls....mmm, mmm, good!!

July 10th:  Myself and three other girlfriends hosted a baby shower for our friend Emily. Although being extremely warm, we had a lot of fun and she got some great gifts!!

July 11-15:  Kaden and I went to Des Moines for the week. I wanted to get down there and see my sister....ok, I'll be honest, I needed her help with tons of stuff in preparation for the big birthday party coming up. My mom threw out the idea of only taking one baby and her keeping the other. With just me going, I took her up on the idea because I knew it would be a heck of a lot easier to get things done or attempt to go anywhere with only one....I decided to take Kaden, because he is a little more difficult to take care of these days, and left Kenley, the easy one, with my parents (besides missing Kenley like crazy, it was a great idea). We had a great time.

July 16th:  Brewster Fun Days!!  Because it was about 170 degrees out, the only activity we hit up was the parade. Cody has to direct traffic during the parade so we walked the kids up and roasted enjoyed the many fire trucks and tractors (hey, that's what you get when you live in Brewster Minnesota, haha). We are also attempting to remodel our breezeway and it has to be done before the birthday party. So Cody's dad came over that morning and the two of them worked outside in hopes of getting things done.

July 17th:  The guys didn't get everything they wanted to get done on Saturday, so Cody's dad came back on Sunday. And once again, ROASTED, in the heat. We ran out of materials and had to do some more ordering, so for now, it's a finished product.

July 18th:  I worked on getting the breezeway painted. Now I am not one who does particularly well in the heat and prefer myself some indoor air conditioning....but I knew the painting was going to have to be my job. Just why, oh why, does it have to be soo hot this week?!? I got the bottom half of the walls done...the top half was going to have to be tomorrow's project.  That evening we also found out that Cody's great-grandma had passed away :(

July 19th (today): This morning I went right out and got started painting. It actually wasn't too bad to start off, but by the time I finished I was a hot-mess!  The kids have been great the last two days while I've attempted to be out of the house. But this morning, while I thought they were being such good kids in the house, I came in to a picture frame taken off of the shelf with the glass busted, the dvd drawer open and dvd's emptied out and strung all over the living room, and the two of them sitting there shredding up a pile of kleenex's.  OH MY!!  Now don't get me wrong. I do check on them. Every few minutes I walk in the house and just glance at what they are doing (if they are not standing at the door watching me). But between the time I checked on them last until coming in again....they had been quite mischeivious. And FAST!  I couldn't help but laugh :)

The rest of the week:

Remember, I am trying to get this FIRST birthday party planned amongst all of the madness and those wheels never stop turning in the back of my head about everything that needs to get done yet...I'm freaking out just a little bit!

July 21st:  Cody has his follow-up MRI and oncology visit. His scans are at 9:00am with the Dr. appointment at 4:00pm. Cody's mom is taking the kids that day and in between appointments we are going to do some serious last minute shopping.

July 22nd:  Happy Birthday Kaden and Kenley!! We also will be attending Cody's great-grandma's funeral that day and finishing up getting ready for....

July 23rd:  BIRTHDAY PARTY!!

Whew, then it will all be over!

So, don't think I'm ignoring you....we've just had a few things on our plate lately.

Redneck Swingset

I've always dreamed of my kids having one of these...

21H_KingKongCastleSuperPkg4SS_a1
(wow...doesn't that look fun?!?)

One small problem.  The King Kong Castle Supersized Rainbow Play System isn't necessarily within our budget!

This, however, was what we could do for the kids...

Although not quite the same, it was made with love. And I have a feeling the kids will like it...for now anyway :)

This is my favorite part....

going for a ride

She was doing this for several minutes before I finally got my camera going. Kaden seemed to be enjoying it until Kenley decided she wanted to get in with him...then he thought he'd had enough!!

our summer schedule

This is the kids' schedule that we try to stick to.......doesn't always work that way!

5:30-7:00am:  The kids are waking up any time during this time frame

7:00am:  Breakfast  (oatmeal and fruit, 4oz. bottle) I hop in the shower before Cody leaves for work.

7:30am:  Cody leaves for work. I get the kids dressed (only if it happens not to be a jammie day :) )

7:30-9:00am:  Play-time

9:00am:  Morning naps. Kenley is fairly consistent with her morning nap and will typically sleep until 10/10:30. Kaden usually goes down a little later and doesn't sleep very long :(

10:00am:  Morning snack (4oz. bottle)

10:00-11:30am:  Play-time

11:30am:  Kids get in their highchairs while I work on getting lunch ready

11:45am:  Cody gets home for lunch
Lunch time (depending on my mood, they'll either get table food or baby food and 4oz. sippy cup)

12:35pm:  Cody leaves and goes back to work

12:35-1:00pm:  I clean up lunch

1:00pm:  Afternoon naps.  Again, Kenley goes down like clock-work, Kaden, it needs to be on "his terms."

1:00-2/3:00pm:  The kids will usually sleep anywhere from 1-2 hours.

3:00pm:  Afternoon snack (snack and 4oz bottle)

3:00-5:00pm:  Play time. Depending on their afternoon nap, sometimes one or both will go back down for another short, late afternoon nap

5:00pm:  Cody gets home from work
Kids get supper  (table food/baby food and 4oz. sippy cup)

5:00-7:00pm:  Play time, supper time for us, anything else that needs to get done that I wasn't able to get done during the day (now that Cody is home and I have an extra hand)

7/7:30pm:  Bath time, get ready for bed, 4oz. bottle

8:00pm:  Bed time.  Kenley typically goes down easily, Kaden is usually up for a while yet. He is still fighting sleep so terribly bad!

I am absolutely LOVING being at home with my kids this summer. It's awesome to watch them grow day to day and catch the times that they've discovered something new. These are precious days and I'm thankful I get to spend this time with them.

Tubes are in

Kaden's surgery was successful this morning. He wasn't able to have anything to eat past 1:30 this morning so I was a little worried about how "breakfast time" was going to go without being able to give him any food or a bottle. He was able to have clear liquids up until 5am so I took that opportunity to give him a few ounces. I picked him up out of his crib, fed him some juice, and put him back to bed and he never once even opened his eyes. We checked into the Surgical Center at 6:45 with a very happy baby. After visiting with admissions, nurses, the dr. and anesthesiologist, Kaden was really noticing he hadn't had breakfast and I think he was starting to get hungry. He started getting a little cranky, but I was able to get him to fall asleep on my lap. When they came to take him, I just passed my sleeping boy off to the nurse. The transition was so much easier on us than having him fight it and be terrified of whoever was taking him from us. I was very thankful for that. The time it took from when they took him until the time the Dr. came back to talk to us was only about 15 minutes. He said everything had gone well and they were working on waking him up. It wasn't long after that that we heard the screaming coming from down the hall. Kaden screamed for about 45 minutes before finally giving it up and falling asleep. He was so uncomfortable...screaming, throwing himself around, pulling at his hands and arms like he wanted to just rip them off!! This is where mom started to cry :(  I felt soo awful not being able to console him in any way. By the time we changed him and got him back in to his own pajamas he was awake, and taking things ok. He was bright eyed as we walked back out to the car. He stayed awake and played while we made a quick stop to Target. On the way home, he fell asleep in the car and slept for 3 hours. When he woke up, he was as happy as can be and I could honestly say he's had one of his best days he's had in over two weeks!!  Let's hope it stays this way :)
